O Mamoeiro by Tarsila do Amaral
Tropicalismo was a movement whose impact is still seen today; the principal participants are still important in the international scene. In this way, we can see that the tropicalistas's desire to be listened to for their revolutionary ideas has been fulfilled: their influence is obvious in Brazilian culture that has followed the end of the movement. As we have seen within these pages, the evolution of the movement from a fascination with the Brazilian musical heritage to an interest in the culture of consumption created a new cultural product that made the people of its generation think about the national situation. The imitation of known styles was the first step for tropicalismo and made possible a fusion of the sophistication of lyrics of the songs with the enjoyable nature of popular music. Tropicalismo arose from its contemporary moment to respond to the political situation and to indicate the possibilities for Brazilian culture that went further than what had already been considered. For this reason, tropicalismo achieved the cultural impact it intended: to be Brazilian, to be universal, and to be accessible.
